Major appointment to Enterprise Fife board
The Citizen, 22 August 2003
Links between St Andrews University and Scottish Enterprise
(SE) Fife have received a major boost.
Principal and vice-chancellor of the university, Dr Brian
Lang, has been appointed to the SE Fife board.
Dr Lang has a wealth of experience gained from working in
senior positions with a range of organisations.
Over the last 23 years, his posts have included chief
executive and deputy chairman of the British Library; director of public
affairs for the National Trust and secretary of the National Heritage Memorial
Fund.
He was educated at Edinburgh University and has an MA and
PhD in Social Anthropology.
Fred Bowden, chairman of SE Fife, said:
"We are delighted that Dr Lang has agreed to join the
board. ''His experience speaks for itself and I am confident that the board, SE
Fife, St Andrews and Fife as a whole will benefit from his experience.
"His experience will be particularly important as we
continue to work on the industry-led St Andrews World Class project, which aims
to capitalise on the reputation of the town to bring greater prosperity to the
area.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the
university's Professor Philip Esler, who has recently resigned from the Board,
for his valuable contribution over the last few years."
Dr Lang, commenting on his appointment, said:
"Commercialisation of our research and development
activities is a priority for the university.
''My appointment will further strengthen the strong
relationship which already exists with SE Fife." more
