Golf course issues examined at open forum
The Courier, 27 October 2000
A wide range of topics came under scrutiny during a series
of informal open forums held by senior officials and members of St Andrews
Links Trust and management committee.
Held as part of its commitment to open management of the
towns world-famous links, the initiatives allowed local residents, golf
club members and organisations the opportunity to keep abreast of developments
and raise any concerns.
The programme, introduced last year, took the form of an
open surgery when members of the trust, the links management committee and
management officials were available to talk on matters concerning the
links.
The event was held in the Links Clubhouse, and was
attended by several members of the public.
Matters which came under the spotlight included the Old
Course ballot, speed of play on the courses and the recently-announced change
of format of the Alfred Dunhill Cup.
Alan McGregor, general manager of the trust, explained
yesterday, It was a useful and worthwhile exercise with enough time to
discuss matters thoroughly.
The organisation also staged two information programmes for
invited guests from the St Andrews golfing community, hoteliers, the Kingdom of
Fife Tourist Board, St Andrews community council and tour operators.
