St. Andrews Golfing Society secures tee times on Old Course

Golfweek, 23 March 2000

Owners of the Gateway business and leisure development in St. Andrews, Scotland, announced March 23 two milestones - the external completion of the building and the news that its Golfing Society has secured guaranteed tee times on the Old Course.

The complex will have three integral parts - the St. Andrews Golfing Society private members’ club, the University of St. Andrews Museum and Information Center and The Gateway Conference Venue.

As a result of the tee times, the St. Andrews Golfing Society has created a limited luxury membership package comprising membership to the Society with tee times on the Old Course and the New Course in St. Andrews and at nearby Kingsbarns, along with three nights accommodation in the Old Course Hotel and airport transfers.

St. Andrews Golfing Society, which already has attracted international and local membership, will open in May. Individual and corporate memberships also are available.

“By creating a business and conference center within a complex which has five star leisure facilities and access to the world famous courses in Scotland, members will be able to combine business and pleasure in the same visit, providing the sense of belonging which they have previously been unable to experience,” said Geoff Lang, chief executive of St. Andrews International Limited.

The University of St. Andrews Museum, scheduled to open in July, will chart the progress of the University through the centuries and will feature artifacts, some of which date to the 15th century.

The University of St. Andrews Information Center will provide details on current research and activities.

The Gateway Conference Venue and Business Center will cater to international business visitors, will offer facilities for up to 300 delegates and will host private functions.

St. Andrews Golf Society membership costs, including taxes, are: limited luxury membership - $3,995 (guaranteed golf on the Old Course); individual membership - $1,295; and corporate membership - $5,875.
