Dear Kingsbarns Resident
dunhill links championship 2004 - The Old Course,
Kingsbarns Golf Links,
Carnoustie
The dunhill links championship will once again be played
over The Old Course, Kingsbarns Golf Links and Camoustie, from October 7 - 10,
2004. The Championship will feature the best European golfers, including many
of the 2004 European Ryder Cup team, together with a host of celebrities from
other sports and the world of film and television.
As in previous years, and as agreed with Fife Police and
the local authorities, Back Stile will be closed to vehicles from its
junction with Seagate, at the point that it enters the golf course **, to the
beach car park from Monday 4 to Saturday 9 October inclusive. In addition,
for the safety of local residents, Fife Constabulary will be placing
No Parking cones along Main Street from Wednesday 6 to Saturday
9 October inclusive - off street parking will be unaffected, and temporary
parking outside the village Post Office will still be permitted.
Access to the
Coastal Footpath will be
maintained throughout the Championship, and again we would ask that for you and
your familys own safety, which is one of our primary concerns, you take
the utmost care when using the footpath during the Championship, especially
where the footpath runs close to the golf course.
Entry to the 2004 dunhill links championship is free of
charge on Thursday, Friday Saturday and so we hope that you are able to
attend and join in the excitement of this, the fourth, dunhill links
championship.
We look forward to seeing you in October.
Yours faithfully
ROSS HALLETT

The main points have been emphasised, for clarity
** At no point does the beach road actually "enter the
golf course", as claimed. There is only one approved access to the golf
course, half a mile to the south east of the village. The only point where the
public road to the beach actually confronts the golf course is at a newly
constructed 'crossing point' which links the north and south sections of the
golf course, near the public car park.
The Community Council, in a letter to planning officials
in 2002, stated that they "do not feel that it is necessary to close this road
at all" during the event. Certainly, it should be possible for reasonable,
professional, event organisers to provide secure golf course entry at the
crossing point whilst maintaining normal vehicle access to the beach. This is,
after all, the only vehicular access to this popular public beach.
