24th September 2001
Dear Kingsbarns Resident
Dunhill Links Championship 2001 The Old Course,
Kingsbarns Golf Links,
Carnoustie
You will by now no doubt be aware that the inaugural
Dunhill Links Championship will take place from 15th to 21st October over The
Old Course, Kingsbarns Golf Links and Carnoustie.
The Tournament is a celebration of Links Golf and will
bring together all of Europes top Professional golfers with stars from
the worlds of sport and entertainment for a week of what is certain to be a new
and unique experience in European Tournament golf.
Kingsbarns Golf Links is playing host to the Tournament,
along with The Old Course and Carnoustie. While we are very aware of the
possible impact this may have on residents in the area, we are doing our very
best in conjunction with the police and the local authorities to ensure that
any inconvenience is kept to an absolute minimum. Nevertheless, it is
inevitable that there will be some disruption, especially as for security
and safety reasons Back Stile will be closed to vehicles from the point that it
enters the golf course to the beach car park from 15th to 20th October. In
addition, for the safety of local residents, Fife Constabulary will be placing
No Parking cones along Main Street from 17th to 20th October
inclusive - off street parking will be unaffected.
As Tournament organisers we felt that, for the safety of
spectators, players and local residents, it was vital to close the
Coastal Footpath for the
duration of the event. Our application to do this has been unsuccessful,
however, in light of this decision we would ask that if you decide to use the
footpath at anytime from 15th to 20th October, please be VERY careful and aware
of golfers playing the course. When walking along the Coastal Route adjacent to
Kingsbarns Golf Links could we ask you to consider, wherever and whenever
possible, using the beach rather than the footpath.
We realise that this notice is being given at a relatiyely
late stage in the planning process and apologise for any additional
inconvenience this may cause.
Finally, we would like to invite each household to have the
opportunity to attend the Tournament and join in the excitement of the
inaugural Dunhill Links Championship. As such we enclose two entry
tickets and hope that you will have the opportunity to come and watch this
new tournament, which through world-wide TV coverage will play an important
part in promoting Scotland and the beauty of the Fife coast.
Yours faithfully
ROSS HALLETT For, and on behalf of, IMG, organisers of
the Dunhill Links Championship
